In 1960, this was declared as a Wildlife Sanctuary. The Aravali range of the oldest mountain comprises the sanctuary. Also, rich in herbal medicinal plants is the sanctuary which is about 28 species of climbers, 81 species of tree, 17 species of tuberous plants and 89 species of climbers of medicinal importance have been identified. Highly rare included a variety of fauna, endangered and threatened species which are found in this sanctuary.

The presence of Tiger (last reported in 1970) and Lion (last reported in 1872) indicated the past history of Mount Abu. The predator of apex is the panther. Common Mongoose, Sambhar, Hedgehog, Indian Fox, Pangolin, Indian Hare, Jungle Cat, Common Langoor, Porcupine, Small Indian Civet, Jackal, etc these other animals are found in Desert Wildlife Sanctuary. The highest peak is Gurashikhar in the Aravali Ranges where the Mount Abu wildlife sanctuary crosses a mountain high variety.

An ideal habitat for Sloth bear given by the sanctuary but Sloth bear’s population is increasing regularly, while motoring on the road or forests, as it can be seen. These birds continuous chirping will provide you an idea of these species on visiting the sanctuary. One can experience both pilgrim tourism as well as nature based tourism at one go this is the best part of visiting Mount Abu Sanctuary. It has a particularly Jain temples such Luna Basahi, of course the magnificent temple of Dilwara and Vimal Basahi, plethora of temples. It also a pilgrimage’s renowned place for the Hindus with Madhuvan, Achaleshwar, Adharadevi and Raghunathji temple to just a few names.

How to Reach

By Road: Well linked road is Mount Abu with Jaipur, Udaipur, Ahmedabad and Jodhpur.
By Train: Well connected is Mount Abu Railway Station with the cities such Udaipur, Delhi, Jodhpur, Ahmedabad and Jaipur.
By Air: Udaipur is the nearest airport. For Mount Abu, buses and taxis are easily available from here.
