One of the most famous tiger reserves is Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary which is located at about 34 km from Alwar town in Rajasthan, India. The sanctuary is well nestled in the Aravali hills which spread over an area of 800 sq km which support the growth of forest of scrub thorn arid, grasses and dry deciduous forests making it a haven for wild animals. It name suggests Sariska is famous for Royal Bengal Tiger and has rich in flora & fauna. Chinkara, Leopard, plenty of birds, Striped Hyena, Blue Bull, reptiles, Jungle cat, Four Horned antelope, Sambar Deer, Langure, Spotted Deer, Wild Boar, Caracal and Hare etc these are other attractions of Sariska National Park.

This National Park attained the National Park’s status in 1979 and was declared as a sanctuary in 1955. Evident in the Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary are the ruins of Garh- Rajor’s medieval temples which are belonging to the century of 10th and 11th. The Sariska’s landscape comprises of the Aravali hill range’s narrow valley and hills. Sariska supports the topography forest of scrub thorn arid, grasses, rocks and dry deciduous forests. Here, the wildlife’s board range is an amazing example of ecological tolerance and adoption and here for the climate is variable as well as erratic.

Besides the Peafowl of omnipresent other birds like Crested Serpent Eagle, several species of raptors may be spotted with patience, Wood peckers, Tree Pie, Partridges, Quails, Sand Grouse and Great Indian Horned Owl; the park is rich in fauna. Rhesus Monkey, Leopard, Langur Nilgai, Jungle Cat, Chitel and wild dog those varied species of wildlife’s home is Sariska National Park and other than the Bengal Tiger is the main attraction of this park. The reign of tiger is supreme in the Sariska forests but cohabit of other animal with herds of Chital (Spotted deer) and the “Great Cat”, Sambar (largest Asiatic deer), Wild Dog, solitary Nilgai (Blue Bull), Hare, Indian Porcupine and Wild Boar may be seen on a safari through the park. From the Sariska Park’s wild wealth the Wild Dog, Tiger, Leopard, Hyena, Jungle Cat and Jackal.

This park contains ruined temples as well as a palace, fort and pavilions now a hotel and as a Ranthambore National Park built by the Maharajas of Alwar who was the former owners of this area. During July and August but between November and June is the great time when the animals move to higher ground except the sanctuary can be visited year round. Becoming more common during the day are though tiger sightings you will see most wildlife in the evening.

Other Attractions In Sariska

A great tourist attraction is Sariska Tiger reserve. Tourists can take the pleasure of bird watching, jeep safaris or can simply take long walks enjoying the nature in Sariska.

The Kankwari Fort: Once imprisoned his brother of Emperor Aurangzeb, Dara Shikoh where among the historic landmarks which is located within the Sariska National Park includes the Kankwari Fort.

The Ancient Shiva Temples: Neelkanth Temples within the Sariska Tiger Sanctuaries area now in ruins that dates back to the 6th- 13th century AD which afford a beautiful sight to the visitors.

The Palace: The ruler of Alwar’s Sariska was known as the royal reserve and this palace was built by the Alwar’s Maharaja has now been converted into a hotel.

How to Reach

By Road: This Sanctuary is also well linked with Alwar and is situated on the highway of Delhi- Jaipur near Jaipur and Delhi.
By Train: At Alwar is the nearest railhead at a 37 km distance.
By Air: At Jaipur is the nearest airport from Sariska National Park.
